Electrical Capacitance Tomography on Lubricating Oil Film in Sliding Bearing Based on multi-sensor model

ABSTRACT

Electrical capacitance tomography (ECT) was applied to monitor the lubricating oil film of journal bearing. Journal was set as central electrode. The journal bearing ECT sensor consists of journal and a set of measurement electrodes mounted symmetrically around the bearing. The imaging area of ECT was between the journal and bearing, which was filled with lubricating oil and gas. A conclusion can be drawn that the capacitances of central electrode have much more effect than the other capacitances by analysing the characteristic of sensor. Only the capacitance of central electrode is used to reconstruct the image. The number of measuring electrodes is increased to improve the imaging quality. The image reconstruction method based on the cylindrical multi-sensor model, compared with conventional measurements at one radial position, is introduced to solve the effect of whirling motion on ECT.
