ABSTRACT
Some structural and hydrodynamic properties of a flat rectangular sheet (0.4x0.4x 0.02 m3) of RCM-NCX-1116, a Ni-Cr metallic foam manufactured by Recemat International B.V. (The Netherlands) are investigated using X-ray radiography at 420 kV and X-ray micro tomography at 100 kV. Local values of the porosity, mean pore diameter, liquid holdup distribution, static holdup and liquid radial spreading are obtained. Geometric parameters evaluated by tomography agree well with the producers data. Strong entrance and exit effects leading to an increase of the hold up, which may reach around 50 % are exhibited.
Keywords X-ray tomography, X-ray radiography, metallic foam, liquid holdup
