ABSTRACT
Radiation based densitometry is frequently used to measure phase fraction and to identify flow regimes in multiphase flows both in research as well as in industrial applications. A robust high-speed multichannel X-ray densitometer is set up for application to transient gas-liquid and liquid-liquid flows in DN80 pipes. The densitometer’s performance regarding linearity and phase fraction resolution was evaluated utilizing fixed and rotating phantoms. A phase fraction resolution of 0.2 mm for a simulated gas/liquid flow and 1.5 mm for a simulated oil/water flow is achieved at kilohertz sampling rates.
