ABSTRACT
To address the challenge of real-time, spatially resolved monitoring of adsorption dynamics in fluidized bed VOC control systems, this study develops an integrated framework based on three-dimensional electrical impedance tomography (3D-EIT). A key focus is placed on the influence of fluidized particle agglomeration on local saturation distribution, which contributes to early breakthrough and efficiency loss. First, a 3D-EIT system is implemented to dynamically reconstruct the spatiotemporal distribution of activated carbon concentration and VOC adsorption saturation under fluidization. Second, the impact of electrode geometry, excitation frequency, and signal injection strategy on imaging sensitivity and resolution is quantitatively analyzed, leading to the design of an optimized multilayer sensor array suited for gas–solid–adsorbate interactions. Third, a synchronized diagnostic platform is established by integrating high-speed imaging with EIT acquisition, enabling visual cross-validation and error quantification of tomographic reconstructions through simulation and experiment. Results confirm that the proposed system effectively distinguishes between geometric agglomeration and dielectric changes induced by VOC adsorption, offering new insights into the coupled mechanisms of gas-solid mass transfer. This research provides a robust technical foundation for advancing the visualization, diagnosis, and optimization of fluidized-bed VOC adsorption processes.
