ABSTRACT

A fast image reconstruction method based on Improved Binary Back Projection Algorithm (IBBPA) for online ultrasound computed tomography in solidliquid flow is presented in this paper. Fanshape beam ultrasonic transmitters are used to emit ultrasonic pulses. An ultrasonic transducer array, which consists of eight ultrasonic transducers used as both transmitters and receivers and 16 ultrasonic transducers used only as receivers, is used. The principle of IBBPA is presented in detail. The respective signals of scattering of a cylindrical wave by different distributions of rigid spherical particles at different number densities were simulated based on Boundary Element Method (BEM), and the results were input to IBBPA for image reconstruction, and the position and the size of each particle can be reconstructed accurately. As shown by the final results, the spatial image error (SIE) of IBBPA is visibly less than that of Binary Back Projection Algorithm (BBPA).
