ABSTRACT
The paper presents results of the solid concentration changes and shear band analysis in bulk solids during flow in a rectangular model silo using X-ray technique with continuous radiation based on the X- ray tomography. The analysis of 1D cross-sectional plots and 2D images based on X-radiographs presents the evolutions of solid concentrations and formation of the shear zone in sand during silo discharge. The experiments in model silo were carried out with different initial densities of sand and silo wall roughness. The obtained 1D and 2D results were compared with results received from the application of the Electrical Capacitance Tomography (ECT) method, which were conducted for the same silo model.
Keywords Granular material, X-ray radiation, silo flow, continuous exposure, solid concentration
