ABSTRACT

Simulations considering carbon-fibre-reinforced plastics (CFRP) with defects and then reconstructing the images of these defects in electromagnetic tomography non-destructive evaluation systems are presented in this paper. Ansoft Maxwell 3D models regarding both unidirectional and cross-woven samples are built and analyzed to show the CFRP orientations. The simulation results appear in good agreement with the practical experiments. In unidirectional sample cases, two methods based on simple comparison and Linear Back Projection (LBP) algorithm are developed to locate the damaged area. The results show that electromagnetic tomography non-destructive evaluation methods with precise reconstruction algorithms are capable of detecting flaws in CFRP.
