Abstract
Radioactive particles tracking technique is widely used in chemical engineering. The technique involves tracking the position of a radioactive particle emitting gamma-ray photon inside 3D process vessels to study hydrodynamic behaviors of the process medium. The phenomenological model is used to simulate the number of counts measured and reconstructed by solving the problem of minimizing between measured events and modelling ones. Comparing with others, algorithms based on Monte Carlo approach offer better accuracy for estimating the particle position, since they reflect real nature of the photon transport and interaction with the process medium after emitting from the particle. This paper presents an algorithm for the reconstruction of the position of radioactive particle by using MCNP5 code package. Advantages of the algorithm are demonstrated.
Keywords: non-invasive technique; reconstruction algorithm; radioisotope techniques, chemical reaction engineering, Monte Carlo simulation.
