ABSTRACT
A powerful computational DSP module has been designed, constructed and tested for use as a building block in multi-phase flow applications. Due to the non-specific interface on the module it can interface easily to multi-phase flow data acquisition systems with little additional electronics. It has been proposed for use in one such multi-phase application, the development of a dual sensing plane Electrical Impedance Tomography (EIT) measurement system where it is required that 2000 frames/s are collected on two sensing planes. Initial work on this flowmeter has resulted in a single DSP module acquiring 1000 frames/s from one sensing plane. The results are very encouraging, as little optimisation of the system software has been carried out. It is expected that by applying several optimisation techniques the performance of the system will increase to around 2000 frame/s plus.
