ABSTRACT
This paper will address the fundamental design issues inherent in using a loosely coupled planar array of coils, i.e. that of avoiding interference from magnetic fields created by external currents. The paper will present the results from analytical and finite element models, which calculate the spatial response of the coils and overall coil array, in addition the effects of various screen designs will also be presented. The results of the models are supported with measurements of the response of experimental coil arrays. Finally, the paper will conclude with current waveforms of various harmonic content measured using a prototype device, designed to demonstrate the technique.
Keywords Faradays law, Electromagnetism, Current measurement, Spatial responses.
