ABSTRACT
The electrical impedance tomography (EIT) technique is introduced to visualize two-phase systems. The finite element method is employed to solve the electrical field induced by the currents through electrodes placed along the boundary and a modified Newton-Raphson iterative method is used to determine the search step minimizing the error between the calculated and the measured voltages at the electrodes. However, even for two-phase system, the conventional Newton-Raphson method can’t increase the spatial resolution after a certain iteration step. To resolve this problem an adaptive mesh grouping technique is introduced. A new image reconstruction algorithm is tested for the synthetic data. It seems that the proposed algorithm is useful for the improvement of EIT performance in the application to the visualization of two-phase systems.
